[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Turing_flat.jpg. Its copyright status is unclear, so it may have to be deleted. Please leave a note on the image page about the source of the image. Thank you.

Hi Matt, this is no longer a problem, see the Village Pump. Meow! --iMb~Mw 08:30, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading a bigger version; I really like the photograph, but I'm a crypto-buff...Anyway, we've fixed the image so that it's a normal size inline -- the software can automatically "thumbnail" it within the page, but when you click on it you get the full version. Uploading images to Wikipedia is one of the more difficult and obscure things you can do, and takes a bit of getting used to. Don't worry about making mistakes, your contributions are very welcome! Cheers, — Matt Crypto 08:35, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hi; your Rilo Kiley image is excellent, but you've not indicated its copyright status. If you've released it under the GFDL, could you please add the {{GFDL}} tag to the image's description page? If it's under some other license, you can check out Wikipedia:Image copyright tags to find the right one. Thanks! -- Hadal 09:23, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Okay, I've tagged it as GFDL for you. Cheers, -- Hadal 02:57, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Image tags

[edit]

Hi Matt. Thanks for your contributions, and in particular your images! But I hope you'll forgive me for nagging you about adding the copyright "tags" to the image pages. It is important to remember to do this, as we get a lot of copyright problems with images, and when Wikipedia eventually ends up in print or on CD or DVD we really need to have the status of images sorted out. And it is very easy to do: simply add a {{GFDL}} or {{PD}} tag to the image description page. It'd be much appreciated! — Matt Crypto 16:53, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Joinee

[edit]

Are you a Joinee?

  • Hi Matt, thanks for dropping by on my talk page :-) I love Wikipedia. Way back at uni I was really into the idea of what I was then calling "self-healing databases" and nowadays it's wonderful to see things which make the internet genuinely collaborative again rather than just being a place to sellsellsell and to merly consume information, which I think it became for a while, or at least was veering towards. Joinee K / Kierant 17:57, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There was a mispelling in the title of your recent article on Oscars hosts. I moved the article to the correct title I think you intended. -- Longhair | Talk 12:02, 13 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Removing VfD tags prematurely

[edit]

Do not remove VfD tags prematurely, as you did on Beer Hall of Fame. VfD tags are to remain on an article until the VfD voting and discussion has completed. Similarly, cleanup tags should remain on an article until the cleanup work is done, which has not been accomplished yet on the Beer Hall of Fame article. I strongly welcome your edits on Wikipedia! Just please be sure to do such edits in line with Wikipedia policies. Thanks. --Durin 17:47, 25 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Thanks very much for the congratulations! I noticed your signature goes to User:Matt.Whitby (with a capital "W"), rather than User:Matt.whitby (with a lowercase "w"), which means people end up at the wrong page (Wikipedia is case sensitive). You'd likely be able to fix this by fiddling in the preferences. Thanks again! — Matt Crypto 21:34, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I think it would be more appropriate to tag is as a VfD. By the way, you need not mention the reason for CSD candidate on the article's talk page, you can use the {{db|reason}} (deletebecause) template. Keep up the good work. utcursch | talk July 5, 2005 08:31 (UTC)

Ok, thanks.. i'll make sure I use that tag in future. Thanks for you help. -- Matt Whitby

Deleted article

[edit]

Hello there. I have a quick question. Is there a list of articles which have been deleted, as one of mine seems to have gone and I can't think of any good recent for it being removed? Cheers --[[User:Matt.whitby|-- user:Matt.whitby]] 14:31, 18 July 2005 (UTC) User:Matt.whitby[reply]

You could search through the log of deleted pages: [1]. You might try searching through your own contribution list, as well: [2]. Hope that's some help. — Matt Crypto 16:13, 18 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure that this category isn't redundant, but if it is to retained, and since it is about an American topic, should't the spelling of "honour" be the US spelling "honor"? --Rogerd 17:33, July 30, 2005 (UTC)

The licensing information you provided for that image says "Permission given to show image on Wikipedia". That sounds rather unlikely. Either the image is out of copyright (unfortunately, there's no publication year given), or it is still in copyright and is unfree. Can you clarify? Rl 17:13, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that should be in the Public Domain then. I updated the image description page accordingly. Thank you. Rl 10:11, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mathematical numbers

[edit]

Hi. You created Category:Mathematical numbers. It is not clear to me what this category is supposed to contain; furthermore, the name mathematical numbers itself seems rather strange to me (are there any numbers that are not mathematical?). Did you check that none of the subcategories of Category:Numbers like Category:Integer sequences fulfils the purpose that your category is supposed to serve? Cheers, Jitse Niesen (talk) 21:54, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the VFD tag you placed on this article as it never seems to have actually been submitted for deletion, and there is precedent on wikipedia for articles on computer games, even eighties spectrum ones. Djbrianuk 22:32, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Billy Joel spam

[edit]

I noticed that you re-added a "spam" link in the Billy Joel article. I assume you did this without knowing that link—pianofanman.com—is a known spam link and should not be in the article. An anon user keeps adding it and we keep deleting it. Just FYI. If you see it deleted again in the future (which it most likely will be since the anon user is rather relentless), it shouldn't be re-added. Thanks. Frecklefoot | Talk 15:34, September 9, 2005 (UTC)

Hi. What's a spam link. I went to the link and I don't recall it having any popups, if that's what you mean by spam link. I certainly won't add it back, but if you could explain the term it'd be helpful. Looked like quite a good site to me.
Best wishes, -- User:matt.whitby

Let's keep this discussion here. A spam link is a link that points to a commercial site, no matter how good it is. Amazon.com is a great site, but we don't link to it (except from it's own article). This explains it in more detail. Peace. :-) Frecklefoot | Talk 16:54, September 9, 2005 (UTC)

Oh, is it a commerical site? I didn't realise it was.

Thank you for your contribution at 2005 Kashmir earthquake. Please keep it up!!!Pradeepsomani (talk)

Thanks for uploading Image:War-memorial-east-end-newbury.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. Thanks for uploading Image:Make povery history band plastic.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. I added the tag. You can put it anywhere in the image page; I usually position at the end, because for some tags the boilerplate text is so long it goes off the bottom of the screen, and relevant info below it can get missed. Stan 15:47, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

Wikimedia received a copyright violation notification via OTRS from The Friends of Kensal Green Cemetery. I've removed (at least temporarily) the content they are concerned about, and will discuss with them how best you might maintain your todo list without infringing. (btw: WOW, that's a big project! impressed...) - Amgine 05:46, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, yes. At least, when there is clear evidence of categorization and qualifying, which that list has. One possible method of avoiding conflict might be to create an alphabetized - but not categorized - listing. Or to list only those persons you've already created or found on the en.WP. And of course to give credit (and a linkback) to the original source would do much in the effort to be polite. I'd be happy to help with this if you'd like some help. Proposed deletion

[edit]

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Ghinzu, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Importance). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Ghinzu. If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at Talk:Karen Boyer. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.161.229.106 (talkcontribs) 13:16, 31 December 2006

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Centre for Death and Society, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Notability of Scott Appel

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Scott Appel, by Brianga (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Scott Appel seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Scott Appel, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it did not nominate Scott Appel itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 21:07, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Mabus, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.mabus.biz. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Removal of AfD notice from Ben Kinsella

[edit]

It may not have been your intention, but your recent edit to Ben Kinsella removed an "Articles for deletion" notice. These notices should remain in place until consensus has been reached at the deletion discussion. If you disagree with the proposed deletion, you can comment at the debate for this article here. Proposed deletion of UK victims of knife crime

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article UK victims of knife crime, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. tomasz. 12:27, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Ren and Stimpy episodes, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Ren and Stimpy episodes has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Ren and Stimpy episodes, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. George Lamb/Ray Davies

[edit]

Matt,

In their Broadcasting Bullitin, released today (8th Dec), Ofcom said they found the George Lamb/Ray Davies interview to not be in breach of generally accepted standards or the Broadcasting Code. Because of this I have removed the paragraph about the interview which you added to George_Lamb_(presenter) on 2nd Oct[3], as it does not seem noteworthy to keep a reference to something that was not upheld by Ofcom or that attracted much attention outside the Kinks fan-base or 'remove George Lamb' community. For example, in the latest bulletin alone GMTV received complaints about generally accepted standards on regarding two separate incidents and were not upheld by Ofcom, and these are not included in the GMTV article either.

I am working hard to keep the George Lamb article in a NPOV and increase the information in the article that is of an encyclopedic nature. Hopefully you agree with the action I have taken. If you do not, I would very much like to discuss the issue with you, and any other members that have an opinion, so that we can find an amicable resolution.

Thanks, drak2 (talk) 23:21, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article Blue Cartoon has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I can find no significant coverage of this band or other indication that it might meet WP:BAND. Tagged for notability since June 2009 without improvement.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.  Glenfarclas  (talk) 02:47, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Matt.whitby! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot notifying you on behalf of the the unreferenced biographies team that 1 of the articles that you created is currently tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 6 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

A tag has been placed on Emma's Imagination requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles – see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. roleplayer 20:15, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Tim Leiweke has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one.    Thorncrag   06:51, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with upload of File:Zero days left.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Zero days left.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or provided a license tag. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, select the appropriate license tag from this list, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you can't find a suitable license tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 17:06, 22 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Zero days left.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Courcelles 00:23, 23 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Mo matching drapes logo.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Removing Speedy at Rara (service)

[edit]

Hi Matt.whitby, you recently removed a deletion tag from Rara (service). Because Wikipedia policy does not allow the creator of the page to remove speedy deletion tags, an automated program has replaced the tag. Although the deletion proposal may be incorrect, removing the tag is not the correct way for you to contest the deletion, even if you are more experienced than the nominator. Instead, please use the talk page to explain why the page should not be deleted. Remember to be patient, there is no harm in waiting for another experienced user to review the deletion and judge what the right course of action is. As you are involved, and therefore potentially biased, you should refrain from doing this yourself. Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 19:24, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Blue Cartoon moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Blue Cartoon, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Mark Bacino, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Sam Pottle, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Great Barrington. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:10, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nigel Rogers

[edit]

Hi, I noticed on twitter some people discussing the recent death of Nigel Rogers. I haven't been able to find any reliable sources for it, but I might not be getting the best search results as I'm in the US. Just thought I'd let you know as the article creator so you can keep an eye out for sources as well. Schazjmd (talk) 18:54, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Update: another editor found a source and updated the article. Schazjmd (talk) 14:50, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
