The adjective tells us it is an independent organization, not part of a larger institution. Compare to other colleges which may be part of universities, governmental education systems or connected to religious organizations. - SummerPhDv2.016:06, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, Mr SummerPhD, in this context it means that it is basically a fee-paying school, barely distinguishable to what is known in the UK as a 'public school'. I know, because I went to one on a scholarship. They get to make up their own curriculum and some rules separate from the state school system. So 'independent' here can safely be called 'posh' or 'exclusive' or 'fee-paying' school.86.87.191.180 (talk) 17:40, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My edit has been reverted, but it's definitely valid cuz she established a career in the United Kingdom as a Briton, then emigrated to the United States and was naturalized and continued her career, and is thus known as both a British actress and as an American actress (see WP:ETHNICITY).
